JANUARY 2009

As we enter 2009 its time to reflect on another successful year; our last event was on the 18 th December. Over the year we have had several new experiences: - at one cycle road race around Steyning we suddenly found ourselves marshalling in a snow storm. The race was stopped however locating the riders in the near zero visibility was difficult, one rider was “rescued” by one of our mobile vehicles and it took ages before he stopped shivering even with the car heater on full bore (the mobile vehicle driver was dripping in his winter clothing!!).

REAC successfully marshalled two events simultaneously namely the Durrington Festival and the first day of the Parham Game Show.

A few days later came another first, marshalling the St Barnabas Solstice Walk which started at midnight and finished around 0600. We have never marshalled one thousand women before.

In December we covered three events at Lancing College in less than 3 weeks: - the first for Queen Alexandra Hospital Home, the second for St Barnabas Hospice and the third was for the BBC.

THANK YOU!

Some thanks are also due, primarily to our members
for all their efforts in sun, rain and snow.

THANK YOU!

Also thanks to the Excelsior Explorer unit for helping us on events where we needed extra manpower, and to Domino's Pizza for supplying us with food on one of the Lancing events. Thanks are also due to Tesco Express who supplied us with some marshals for one event and a donation as part of their policy of helping the local community.

We have been fortunate to gain some new members this year; however we are still looking for more people to help us in 2009.

We have 22 events on our events list for 2009 so far, some are new for us whilst others are regular events that we cover every year.

WORTHING REAC – Raising money for local charities by providing safety security and event management services.

Charities are selected by the members at our AGM.

2010- The Sandy Gregory Award (a new award for 2010 which will be an annual award) for 1500 pounds will go the Worthing Hospital Intensive care Unit.

Worthing Guild Care will receive 1000 pounds. REAC will also donate 1000 pounds to Shoreham Lifeboat, plus the group has been able to give 1000 pounds to the Sophie appeal which has been set up to send Sophie ( who suffers from cerebral palsy) to America for an operation which will help her to walk.

All this means that Worthing REAC has managed to raise 4500 pounds to give to LOCAL Worthing charities because of the work done in 2009.

2009 A total of 4,600 was donated at the end of our finacial year 2009/2010. receipients were:-

Queen Alexandra's Hospital Home, we gave them 1000 pounds but after hearing that they wanted to start a vegetable garden we gave them another 200 pounds. By buying the tools, growbags, seeds etc ourselves we enlisdted the help of Ben ( the manager) at Wyevales garden centre on Littlehampton Road. He very kindly gave us a substantial discount which meant  we were able to deliver nearly 300 pounds worth of gardening bits and pieces to Queen Alexandr's hospital home.

Littlehampton Lifeboat
