Suited & Booted

Worthing REAC equips a lifeboatman.

Worthing REAC provides marshalling and safety services at all sorts of public events, donating the proceeds of their efforts to good causes. Their recent donation of £1200 to Littlehampton Lifeboat Station has funded the cost of providing a complete set of personal protection equipment, ‘PPE', which is personally issued to each lifeboatman. The equipment includes a completely watertight drysuit, a thermal suit worn under the drysuit, a marine safety helmet and gloves, which together with a lifejacket are essential safety and comfort protection for the crew working in open boats, often in rough conditions, and in all weathers.

Lifeboatmen are issued with their PPE as they near the end of their initial training and it is clear that they are likely to successfully complete their competence assessments. Andy Hicks and Tom White will shortly be assessed by a professional RNLI trainer to ensure that their locally provided training has prepared them to work to the standards required. Here, Andy and Tom, in their new PPE, are seen with David, Sandy and Chris Gregory of REAC.
